Dutch Sculptor and designer Nicolette de Waart's work is shaped around Connection, Femininity, and Beauty. She has built a cohesive body of work across multiple disciplines, from furniture to sculptures and functional art objects.
Her design vocabulary is deeply rooted in nature, and her fascination and curiosity with different cultures and countries she has lived in (Singapore, the UK, and the Netherlands). She creates objects of bold simplicity and elegance, often with a tacit playfulness, in a continuous search for the novel and undiscovered. Research plays a pivotal role in her creative process. Her Berry lamps, for example, are inspired by the intricate beauty and skillfully made Japanese lanterns.
She considers her work continuous between craftsmanship excellence, traditional techniques, and materials such as Bronze, Wood, textiles, clay, and 'cire-perdue', a lost-wax method. Although her techniques are rooted in tradition, her work strives for innovation and production within the circulatory system.
Nicolette has exhibited in Venice, Singapore, New York, London (eg. Focus Art Fair, SAATCHI Gallery), Brussels (Collectible, Curated), Milan (eg. 5VIE, EDIT by Designjunction), Paris (eg. Galerie Joseph, Maison & Objet) and Amsterdam (eg. KunstRAI, GLUE). She has garnered both critical acclaim (incl. 5VIE Art & Design Award), and her work has been acquired by private collectors. In North America, she is represented by the leading gallery Todd Merrill Studio, New York. As an artist, she will be featured in an upcoming Netflix documentary about fertility and femininity.
