MADART Foundation is the largest hub within GLUE Amsterdam this year. Two exhibitions, twenty-three makers, three floors of NIO House Amsterdam, the former Metzgebouw on the Leidsestraat.
For over a century, this building housed Metz & Co, one of the Netherlands' leading design and interior department stores. In 1933, Gerrit Rietveld crowned it with a glass dome, a stage for the progressive design and fashion no one else dared to show. MADART Foundation exists to give that same platform to makers the system still overlooks: not because their work falls short, but because the system is too narrow to contain them.
On the 4th floor, SEASON 02. GROUND continues its run. The Foundation's season built on the ground shared by maker, Foundation and visitor alike. Seven makers and one collective, each having taken their own path.
On the 6th and 7th floor, Maison d'Artiste, staged specifically for GLUE, restores the building's original function. Not a white cube, but a house: a Drawing Room, a Dining Room, a Conservatory and a Parlour, each showing what happens when a maker's work leaves the wall and enters a room built for living. Under Rietveld's dome on the 7th floor, Devoonsounds turns the space over to sound once a day.
