Label 2x2 is a collaboration between Peter Barens and Wout van Slagmaat. Together, we create wooden interior objects using the technique of steam bending.
Steam bending is a method that works in harmony with the natural behaviour of wood. It allows curved forms to be created without the use of additional adhesives or unnecessary material waste, unlike techniques such as lamination. It is a process that requires time, patience, and respect for the material, qualities that wood deserves. As Label 2x2, we explore both the strengths and imperfections of wood, embracing them as part of its character.
Through steam bending, we allow the wood to flow once again, just as it did when it was still a living tree.
