ECHO is a group exhibition bringing together 15 designers around a shared material origin. For this edition, aluminium, sourced from a local industry partner, forms the starting point.
At the core of the exhibition lies the idea of the material echo: how a material continues to exist, transform and resonate beyond its initial use. Rather than starting from a blank slate, each designer works with what is already there, responding to the same aluminium source and allowing its past, properties and limitations to inform new outcomes.
Within this shared starting point, a diverse collection of objects and spatial works emerges. Each piece carries an echo of the material’s origin, while simultaneously becoming something new. The works resonate with one another, not as copies, but as variations shaped by different perspectives, processes and interpretations.
ECHO is driven by the dialogue between designers and material. Together, the works form a collective narrative about reuse, transformation and the enduring presence of material over time. Each object is not the beginning of a material, but a continuation, an echo.
First presented during GLUE Utrecht 2026, ECHO returns with a selection of works exploring the creative potential of aluminium residual streams. As part of GROUND at MADART foundation/ NIO House Amsterdam, the exhibition will be on view for three months, with GLUE Amsterdam forming one of the key moments within this extended presentation.
