Erna de Bie is a designer based in Groningen.

At Glue 2025, Erna will introduce several new creations in her ‘Bicycle Rack’-style; a rug, a lamp, and a coffee table that can be transformed into an object with cube-shaped displays, showcasing her latest jewellery.

An intriguing use of geometrical structures characterize her works. A conceptual work method based on logic and association, allows for shapes to move freely between her art, furniture, home-accessories and jewellery. From her point of view, this is a natural effect she has fully embraced.

Erna’s mathematically organic objects originate from concepts based on the data of the cube or a plane. Her current works are based on a shape named Fietsenrek, after originally been developed as an ornamental bike stand. The shape, a rearrangement of a cube’s ribs, re-entered her work recently true via jewellery in an unusual and surprising way;

By chance, the shape ended up in jewellery. To gain insight in the limits and possibilities of goldsmithing, she presented 5 constructions using existing shapes from her work to visualize the questions she had.

The shape Fietsenrek is versatile and dynamic, in the sense that it changes depending on the perspective. A dynamic composition of lines change into a star, squares, triangles in diamonds and combinations of these shapes.

For the edition of GLUE 2024, Erna combined 7 of these shapes to form a chandelier. The chandelier's graphic shape seems random and keeps changing walking around it, until seeing the chandelier straight from beneath, when a new snow crystal like structure appears.

The upcoming edition of Glue Amsterdam will introduce a new interior object based on this particular shape, as well as a new piece from the jewellery line.
