In my art, I focus on presenting alternative perspectives in an interesting way as a means to break through, to disrupt, the mainstream.
My name is Riangelo Yannick Christie. I am a disruptive artist. I was born and raised on the island of Curaçao. At the age of 18, I moved the Netherlands to study and am now still residing in the Netherlands. The art discipline I focus on is what I call Art & Tech. Using technology to make art. Think of interactive art installations, immersive experiences, creative coding etc... and I also do a lot of graphic design.
I strongly believe the best way to understand a perspective is to experience it, in most cases. My work is influenced by my experience as a queer black man witnessing Dutch neo-colonization in Curaçao and often centers on Black, Caribbean, queer and anti-colonial themes and topics. I often also try to base my work on relevant sociological and/or anthropological theory. I just want to make the world more understanding and loving towards all kinds of people, especially anyone black :).
