Renate Vos is a designer of interior objects. She weaves various materials together to bring new objects to life. Her designs are recognizable by the clear design language and their ability to surprising aesthetic.
Renate’s inspiration comes from travels through time and nature and is inextricably linked to her surroundings: she lives within the fortress of the medieval Loevestein Castle.
GEM, sculptural light objects, where apparent contradictions come together in a symbiotic whole. The collection consists of unique, handmade works. Crafted from cast silicone and eco-friendly concrete, enhanced with LED and minimalist metal frames.
The series blends the coolness and solidity of stone with a sense of comfort; the stone serving as a carrier of warmth, softness, and light. In doing so, the sleek, minimalist metal frames gracefully showcase the objects, drawing inspiration from the framing of a gemstone.
GEM is inspired by sandstones with quartz fractures found along the Maas and the Waal. The two rivers surrounding Loevestein.
LOEV originated from a material experiment with recycled cork and rubber. A design full of contrasts. Not only in terms of material but also in shape. The material is casted, and the untrimmed imperfections of the mold provide an exciting element to the vase. People are misled, surprised. The vase looks hard and cold, but it appears to be flexible and soft. The shape is inspired by the excavations around the Loevestein Castle. It breathes history and transience: the memory of past times is caught in a contemporary, durable object.
